Art Pursuits Limited specialises in adult education covering many aspects of cultural history, from art to food. We offer you study days, lectures, private views of historic sites, and tours. Art Pursuits was founded in 2000 as an independent extramural programme offering study days, private views, and trips by Dr Nicola Smith and Dr Joachim Strupp.
Nicola Smith has worked at the sharp end of heritage conservation, as an inspector of historic buildings with English Heritage, and as a lecturer in art history, first at the University of Buckingham and now independently for organisations such as NADFAS and the Victoria & Albert Museum. Her special subject is English architecture and sculpture on which she has published a number of articles and books, and has appeared on television and radio.
Joachim Strupp is an art historian with a specialisation in Italian and German art of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. After ten years as a lecturer at the universities of St Andrews and Buckingham, he now lectures independently for organisations such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, the John Hall Pre-University Course in Venice (johnhallvenice.co.uk), Martin Randall Travel and a number of Europe-based American academic programmes. He has published articles on Italian Renaissance art and has appeared on radio.
In addition to organising study days at our regular base in Buckingham we can offer similar events in other parts of the UK in conjunction with local groups, museums and educational establishments. These can be timed to coincide with a particular exhibition or historical event and are tailor-made to suit the interests of the audience.
