Art Pursuits Study DayA few Places Available

Palladio 500
The Art Workers Guild, London

Saturday, 14 June 2008

Andrea di Pietro della Gondola was born in Padua in 1508. As Andrea Palladio he became the most familiar of Italian architects and his art of building became one of the most influential styles of all time. More than any other, his buildings and theories embodied Renaissance architectural thought in the second half of the sixteenth century. His villas, in particular, have been architectural icons ever since, and his ideas spread throughout Western Europe by means of his Four Books of Architecture, first published in 1570.

At this study day, to commemorate the anniversary of Palladio’s 500th birthday, we will look at the man, his work and his influence in England.

About the Lecturers This study day will be led jointly by Joachim Strupp and Nicola Smith, the founders of Art Pursuits. Joachim Strupp is a specialist in Venetian Renaissance art who has lectured widely on Palladio and led many tours to Palladio’s villas and the Veneto. Nicola Smith is an architectural historian who has worked as a historic buildings inspector for English Heritage, and as a university lecturer in art history.
