Villas, gardens and mediaeval art around Italy’s most romantic lake
29 May - 4 June 2008
The Lago di Como, sparkling like a sapphire, is one of the world’s
most beautiful lakes, dramatically set against verdant slopes and the
magnificent panorama of Alpine peaks. Situated at the southern tip of
the lake’s ‘left leg’, the lively little city of Como,
birthplace in 23 A.D. of Pliny the Elder and in 1745 of Alessandro Volta,
is an ideal base from which to explore the region’s rich heritage:
by boat, to enjoy aristocratic villas and beautiful gardens bordering
the lake, and by coach to explore frescoed Romanesque churches off the
beaten track.
