Burgundy is synonymous with great wine and cuisine. Yet the greatest jewels in Burgundy's crown are monuments of mediaeval and Renaissance art and architecture covering more than four centuries. During the 11th century crusaders and pilgrims alike traversed the region, prompting the foundation of numerous churches built in the Romanesque style. In the 14th and 15th centuries, Burgundy rose again to artistic splendour under the Valois Dukes who presided over Europe's most illustrious court.

This tour will explore the art and architecture of these two outstanding artistic periods as well as sample some of the region's culinary delights.

This Art Pursuits study tour includes:

Scheduled return flights with BA between London Heathrow and Lyon - travel in France by private coach

The tour will be led by Dr Cathy Oakes, Director of Studies in History of Art at the Department of Continuing Education of the University of Oxford. She is a well-known mediaevalist who has written on Romanesque art and architecture in England and France. The tour will be managed by Joachim Strupp, co-founder of Art Pursuits.

The price of this tour is £1450 per person, based on two people sharing (no flights option £1350 per person). Single room supplement £365.
