VERONA
With excursions to Lake Garda, Mantua and Brescia
20 - 26 September 2010
Lecturer: Dr Joachim Strupp
Verona, at the crossroads between North and South and on the border
between the Veneto and Lombardy, boasts magnificent Roman monuments and
outstanding mediaeval and Renaissance art and architecture. From Verona
we will undertake excursions to the vineyard-covered hills of the Valpolicella
and to Lake Garda’s southern reaches. In Lombardy we will visit
Mantua, a Renaissance jewel, with buildings by Leonbattista Alberti and
Giulio Romano, and Andrea Mantegna’s exquisitely frescoed Camera
degli Sposi, while in Brescia we will explore the city’s treasures,
from its extensive Roman and Lombard remains to a glorious Titian altarpiece.
